Darain Shahidi
Darain Shahidi is an Indian journalist, news presenter and Dastango (storyteller). He is currently associated with GoNews24x7.com, a digital news venture founded by senior journalist Pankaj Pachauri. He looks after the creative and editorial content of GoNews24x7.com.
Shahidi was born and brought up in Gaya, a southern district of Bihar in a humble family. His father Dr. Shahid Ahmed Shoaib is a well known Urdu poet and professor of anthropology in Magadh University. From an obscure part of Bihar, Gaya, Shahidi has gone on to anchor for BBC, Home TV, and Star TV top-notch sports broadcaster ESPN.
An alumnus of Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi, He is active in the field of theater as well and does Dastangoi (An old art form of storytelling in Urdu). When the BiTV was launched in the early 1990s he was a part of the team. A short time later he moved to Home TV where he anchored the BBC News in Hindi. He joined NDTV in the year 1998 and stayed there till 2001. From there he moved to ESPN Star sports as an Anchor of their flagship show SPORTSCENTER. He anchored this show for five long years and became a household name in sports anchoring.

Working with the BBC, NDTV, STAR News, ESPN,STAR SPORTS and IBN7, Darain Shahidi perhaps has an enviable profile in Indian television journalism. Awarded the Best Sports Presenter in 2007 at the Annual News Television Awards, he has in the past worked as an anchor, producer, and reporter. He has the distinction of having anchored the first ever BBC TV news in Hindi. His other credits as an anchor include, Saat Baje on NDTV, STAR News and Sportscenter in ESPN.
From mainstream TV journalism to superhit prime time sports news, Darain has raised his bar with each passing day. He worked with Network18 now News18 for seven years as a senior presenter at IBN7. He quit TV in 2014 and moved over to Digital Journalism. He help establish Cityspidey, India's first and definitive platform for hyperlocal community news.
